The Icelandic Crossing: The Desert of the Interior

7 days80 kmDifficile

There are no trees. There is no noise of civilisation. Just the crunch of your footsteps on volcanic rock, the breath of the wind that changes direction every ten minutes, and the distant roar of a waterfall. Crossing the Icelandic highlands is like walking on another planet. The landscape changes radically around every pass: from rhyolite mountains in ochre and green colours to black sand plains as far as the eye can see.

The Laugavegur, often considered one of the most beautiful treks in the world, takes you through geothermal zones where the earth is literally steaming. You pass hot springs, eternal snowfields, and black peaks polished by the elements.

"In Iceland, you don't just walk on the earth. You walk on a raw force that hasn't finished sculpting the world yet."

The challenge is real: crossing glacial rivers by wading, violent winds that test the strength of your gear, and capricious weather that can go from sunshine to blizzard in an hour. But what a privilege to see the midnight sun illuminating the Vatnajökull glaciers. It is an expedition that leaves you humble before the forces of nature.
